Date/Offer Products

BEST BEFORE, BUT NOT BAD AFTERWARDS!

At sampoornaafoods.com category for Date / Offer, we sell items with a limited shelf life and items that have expired. Despite this, the goods are completely safe to eat. The items are best before, but not bad after!

THIS IS WHAT THE MATTILSYNET SAYS:

Pre-packaged foods must be marked with an expiration date. There are two types of expiration date: "Last day of consumption" and "Best before". Labeling with an expiration date is for the sake of both health and quality.

The expiry date shall indicate the period during which the product retains its specific properties, quality and the like based on the stated storage conditions in the unopened package.

It is the manufacturer who assesses and sets the expiration date on the food. The producers know the raw materials and the processes used. The shelf life shall be based on normal and realistic conditions for transport, storage and sale. This does not prevent producers from taking into account that there may also be different external conditions for the shelf life of the food. In practice, manufacturers often set the shelf life based on the most demanding but realistic conditions during the year. As long as the company has full control and an overview of the conditions, there is nothing to prevent them from putting different durations throughout the year for the same product. This means that the food is given a shelf life that is adapted to the season, temperature and other conditions.

In the matinformasjonsforskriften (Food Information Regulations), the provisions on shelf life labeling and storage are given in § 1, Article 24, cf. Annex X and Article 25.

BEST BEFORE

Most foods should be labeled "best before..." or "best before the end of...". The date indicates how long the item lasts, without losing quality or other specific properties. If it is necessary to store the food in a certain way, in addition to the date, the method of storage must also be stated.

Foods marked "best before ..." can also be sold after the expiration date. It is then the store that is responsible for the item still having acceptable quality or other specific properties.

LAST DAY OF USE

Foods that are easily perishable and therefore can be hazardous to health must be marked with "last day of consumption" followed by the actual date. Such foods cannot be sold after the expiration date. Perishable foods should always have information about storage conditions. While minced meat should be stored at 2 ° C and fish and seafood as close to zero degrees as possible, the general starting point for cold storage is 4 ° C unless the manufacturer has specified a different storage temperature. For more specific temperature requirements, see regulations 22 Dec. 2008 no. 1624 on special hygiene rules for food of animal origin (notification hygiene regulations), cf. Council Regulation (EU) no. 853/2004.
